The Solar House

The solar house

Maria Telekas found a way to harness the sun’s solar energy and created many inventions using it. She was born in Hungry in the year of 1900.She worked at many places and on one fine day in the year of 1939 she joined the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for the solar energy project. But, she saw how the soldiers and sailors were stranded struggling without good water to drink in the Pacific Ocean during the world war 2 so she put aside her project and after a lot of planning, working and thinking she created a device that converts salt water to drinkable water using solar energy and named it the Solar Still. During her solar house project, she discovered a new salt and called it the Glauber’s salt which absorbed the heat by melting and releases the heat by turning back into crystal form. She built her house in Dover that is how it got its name Dover Solar House. It was shaped like a wedge so that the sun’s rays would fall right on the solar panels which goes to a metal pipe when pushed through metal sheets to a room which the fans in the room that push the air into a container filled with the special salt. During the night the salt released the heat and made the house warm and toasty.
